Photo ID to Vote - New Law

Beginning January 1, 2012, all voters must present an ID, meeting the requirements below, containing the voter’s name and photograph, whether voting early or on Election Day.

Any of the following IDs may be used, even if expired:

• Tennessee drivers license with your photo
• Department of Safety photo ID
• State-issued handgun carry permit card with your photo
• United States Passport and Passport Card
• Photo ID issued by the federal or state government, such as an employee ID from the U.S. Department of Energy with your photo
• United States Military photo ID, including a Veteran Identification Card

Chamber Good News

The Chamber staff kicked off this years Week of the Eagles with a tandem jump out of a helicopter flying more than 12,000 feet in the air over Fort Campbell! Chamber Vice-President, Melinda Shepard, and Military & Government Affairs Coordinator, Yvonne Pickering, can be seen here after jumping with two skilled soldiers out at the Air Assault school.

Green Certification Program

Montgomery County and the City of Clarksville are proud to announce the community’s new Green Certification Program.

The CMC Green Certification Program is designed to help businesses learn and implement best practices in the area of environmental stewardship in an effort to sustain our community’s resources through a series of free workshops taught by environmental and other subject area specialists. The idea for the CMCGC Program originated from a Leadership Clarksville study group and is based on successful environmental initiatives that have originated globally.

2012 Home and Garden Show

The Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the dates of the 3rd Annual Home & Garden Show as February 11-12, 2012.  This year’s event is sponsored by Furniture Connection.

Saturday: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Sunday: noon - 5 p.m.
General Admission: $5
Free for Children 12 & under and active duty military with I.D.

February Chamber Events

The Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce announces upcoming events during the month of February.

On Tuesday, February 7, at 11:30 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 290 Alfred Thun Road, the Chamber will be presenting a Women In Business. Please join us for this very special Women In Business event, where the First Lady of Tennessee, Crissy Haslam, will serve as the keynote speaker. As First Lady, she has been proactive on promoting her stance on education, literacy and making families more involved with their children’s education. At this Women in Business, she will share more about her education initiatives and the surprises and lessons learned during her time as the First Lady. The cost is $20 for Chamber members and $25 for non-members.

On February 11 -12, at the APSU Foy Center, 259 Marion Street, and the Chamber will be hosting the third annual Home and Garden Show, sponsored by Furniture Connection. The show is an excellent opportunity to get a head start on home and garden ideas for the spring. It will offer the chance to meet vendors throughout the industry that can help with landscaping ideas, home improvement projects or tell you all about what is new and fashionable for your home.  Show hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. General admission is $5 and free for children under 12 and active duty military with valid I.D.

The Chamber’s Business After Hours will be held on Thursday, February 16 from 5-7 p.m. The event will be hosted by First Advantage Bank at the Kiwanis Lodge, 1601 Old Russellville Pike. Join us for food, networking and fun. Business After Hours is offered at no cost.

On Thursday, February 23, at 11:30 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 290 Alfred Thun Road, the Chamber will be presenting a Lunch & Learn. At this Lunch & Learn, Special Agent Scott Augenbaum from the FBI Cyber Crime Squad will be addressing the growing threat of cybercrime in Clarksville-Montgomery County.  Websites as common as Facebook and Twitter can give criminals the information they need to access your business and personal computers and steal intellectual property, potentially costing you thousands of dollars to fix. Don’t miss this informative session on how to keep your business safe from the threat of hackers. The cost is $20 for Chamber members and $25 for non-members.

Imagination Library

In 1996 Dolly Parton launched a program to provide books to children regardless of their income in her home county in East Tennessee. The program would help to foster a love of reading in children during their preschool years. So she decided to mail an age appropriate book every month to children under the age of five in the hopes that she could share the magic that only reading and imagination can bring. The program was such a success that in March of 2000 Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library was made open to other communities.

Over three years ago, Imagination Library was launched in Montgomery County. This program provides a free book a month for over 4,600 children in Montgomery County from birth until five years of age. The cost for the program is a mere $28 per child per year. In order to meet the growing demand of this program, Imagination Library needs to raise $100,000 each year.

You can participate in this worthwhile cause through contributions to United Way of Clarksville.
