Imagination Library

In 1996 Dolly Parton launched a program to provide books to children regardless of their income in her home county in East Tennessee. The program would help to foster a love of reading in children during their preschool years. So she decided to mail an age appropriate book every month to children under the age of five in the hopes that she could share the magic that only reading and imagination can bring. The program was such a success that in March of 2000 Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library was made open to other communities.

Over three years ago, Imagination Library was launched in Montgomery County. This program provides a free book a month for over 4,600 children in Montgomery County from birth until five years of age. The cost for the program is a mere $28 per child per year. In order to meet the growing demand of this program, Imagination Library needs to raise $100,000 each year.

You can participate in this worthwhile cause through contributions to United Way of Clarksville.
